Lewisham Peoples' Day

Lewisham People’s Day

This event was fantastic and I’m really pleased the council put the event on. It was a shame that it rained on and off most of the day, but that didn’t seem to stop the children enjoying themselves and the stalls and tents doing what they went there to do!

I was on a stall with the Conservative Candidate Jonathan Clamp, who is standing to become the MP in Lewisham East. We had a great day, handing out leaflets and talking to people who had questions about what we’re doing.

I went visited the whole site chatting to local groups to find out what they are up to. I was particularly interested in the Lewisham Pensioners Forum, they were very busy giving out free mugs. I had a very long chat with The Lewisham Environment Trust, we spoke about the many projects and campaigns they have going on in the borough, I’m particularly supportive of their work, as I love using Ladywell Fields, which has been designed to be as natural and environmentally friendly as possible.

I spoke to a number of the housing associations, about various projects and to the Lewisham regeneration team.  I was also impressed by the work LABAN are doing to engage with the community and provide outreach, I used to live in front to LABAN and had always assumed it was just a private exclusive dance school, so I was really please to hear what they are doing. I chatted to the Lewisham Theatre school, I have a teenage sister who is dedicated to becoming an actress, so it was particularly interesting to  hear what happens locally and how groups like this are funded and supported and what sort of programmes they deliver.
