Save Our Libraries

Crofton Park LibraryLewisham Deptford Conservatives are campaigning to save Crofton Park and New Cross libraries. Both are important community facilities that promote education and literacy and provide local hubs.

Lewisham Council& 39;s proposals show a lack of creativity. It is proposing to cut 25% of its library costs by shutting 45% of its libraries. This is ridiculous. Lewisham Council should follow Boris Johnson& 39;s lead by making efficiency savings instead of shutting libraries.

Efficiencies should include a reduction in back office costs, ensuring that all available funds are used to provide a quality service. The first floor of Crofton Park library could be refurbished to remove the dry rot and hired out to community groups.

Michael Rutherford and Hugh O& 39;Leary recently attended a meeting to raise concerns about the closure of Crofton Park libary, where the council& 39;s figures were analysed.
