Vote Appleby to tell the council to keep our libraries open

Ben Appleby at Crofton Park LibraryBen Appleby needs your help this Thursday to keep Crofton Park Library open. Every vote cast for Ben in the Ladywell by-election will send a message to Labour’s Mayor to retain and improve the local Library services.

· Libraries Minister, Ed Vaizey MP, has backed Ben, saying "I am disgusted that the first thing the Labour mayor plans to do is cut library services. No council should be cutting frontline services until it has cut its bureaucracy. I hope the people of Ladywell will get behind Ben Appleby& 39;s campaign and vote to keep libraries open“.

· As the country deals with the cuts caused by Labour’s years of economic mismanagement, locally Lewisham Labour wants to close libraries rather than make efficiencies to reduce waste and bureaucracy at the Town Hall.

· Elsewhere in London, Conservative councils are leading the way by sharing admin functions with neighbouring boroughs to save money.

· Labour have run Lewisham for nearly 40 years. Their legacy is an annual interest bill of £27.8 million, or £100 each year for every resident of the borough. Conservatives would sell assets to repay this debt. Saving just £5.8m of this interest charge would cover the entire library budget.
